Legends out in Force

Tiger legends joined current stars, with Manu Tuilagi, Ed Slater, Geordan Murphy and Tom Croft for a review of the Championship this year, with Manu Tuilagi probably the star attraction, at a Gala night at the Leicester Tigers stadium on Welford Road last week.

The 25 year old has been a great influence for England and Leicester. He has not only played excellently, but also motivated his teammates to a great extent – making him one of the best professionals in the game, even though he is still quite young. It is his youthful power that makes Tuilai a favourite, with it being rumoured that he can bench press over 440 lbs!

He was chosen to play for British and Irish Lions in 2013, and looks set to be turning out again for them in the summer break. It’s quite a leap for someone who was playing for Middlesex Sevens as recently as 2009. He went on to represent both Leicester and England at the highest level, with his caps for the Lions the cherry on the cake. Although injuries have restricted the player in recent seasons, he always came back strong and fit to show his outstanding performances, and is expected to play in their upcoming summer friendlies, with England rugby tickets already in high demand for their matches against Scotland and New Zealand.

At the event, not only were the guests treated to delicious food (a 3 course dinner!) but they also got the chance to have a Q & A session with the Tigers legends. The event was hosted by Matt Poole and it was an evening filled with stories, information and laughter. There were some fortunate fans that walked with amazing raffle gifts that included a framed shirt, signed by all of the current Tigers team.

The commercial director of Tigers Andrea Pinchen said that they could not have anticipated a better evening. Indeed, it was a great feeling to welcome back the best players in the past alongside the current players to listen to their stories and experiences when they reached the international stage.
